Last night we stayed at the Big Texan which is seen above in this photo. It is a Western themed hotel right by the huge Texan restaurant that offers a free 72oz steak (as long as you can eat it in one hour, they have a timer to keep track)

We ate breakfast at the Big Texan restaurant and afterwards had some fun in the lobby. This is a huge chair there. They have all this weird stuff, including a shooting gallery where you shoot guns (fake) to hit little targets that cause stuff to happen with the various mannequins and such.

Holly adores hugs with Shawn, especially right out front the Big Texan after a huge breakfast.

After hitting the road, we stopped in a town called Lubbock for lunch at a Sonic. It's a fast food drive in that you find in almost every town and city in the states. And it is AWFUL. Never again.

In mid-West Texas, we realized we were driving past what used to be fields of cotton that had recently been harvested. There was cotton everywhere... still clinging to dead plants in the fields, lining the ditches, rolling around. Some fields had these HUGE bales of cotton in them. They looked about the size of train cars and were covered in plastic.

We walked out into a field just to get a closer look. The ground was soft like sifted fine sand, and it was red, like what you would expect to see on Mars. The cotton was just that, cotton... fluffy balls of it hanging off of plants. And the huge bale was big, white, and topped with plastic.
This picture hardly does it justice but there was a fantastic sunset as we drove to Del Rio. We reached the city at about 9pm (our time, it was actually 10pm here) and got a room, then hit a little restaurant that was much like a Denny's for something to eat. This is our last stop before we enter Mexico. Tomorrow morning we will be getting up early to cross the border, and then we plan to drive to Monterrey!
